Yes more RAM would make it faster because just running an operating system such as XP requires 256 or so. So an increase in RAM would allow for better settings in a game, faster response time from your PC(when you open programs and whatnot) and incase you get freeze-ups with your current memory that problem would be solved too.

In general, a memory upgrade would make your computer faster. However, it will not be faster in all circumstances. For example, the speed pages display on the Internet can also be dependent upon your Internet connection speed (dial up, dsl, cable, etc.) and also by how many other people are looking at the same page at the same time. If you don’t have a lot of software running (such as antivirus, firewalls, antispyware, etc.), adding more memory to your computer might not substantially increase the speed at which web pages display.

Usually, if you have more memory slots, and your PC will hold more memory then yes it will help make it faster. Also you should try and defrag your hard drive.
