dont use ur old stuff unless its ddr2 … if its older than 6 months it isnt … dont mix the types or you’ll slow everything down , just add another 512 if you have a SINGLE stick, and check out the site the guy above mentioned to get the same speed memory … if you have two sticks of mem now they are 256 each and most likely in dual channel configuration … in that case i would get the same speed memory but buy (2) 512s’ or (2)1gig sticks … if you break up a pair of sticks in dual channel or add a third you will slow things down also …

u van use the old one if its also DDR2 and has the same bus speed that ur new one has , otherwise there will be compatib ility problems,
another option is to buy anoter DDR2 of same bus speed that ur new one has

If your old Dell RAM is DDR2, you can add it, otherwise you have to buy another stick DDR2 to add it to the current RAM. Don’t throw away the current memory stick you have on your computer, just add extra RAM and you will be fine. Why spend more when you already have some RAM?
If you want a compatible RAM for your new pc, go to http://www.crucial.com They have a tool to check your configuration and tell what type of RAM you need, you can also buy from them or just write down the info (or print it) and go to a store.
In my experience, go for Crucial, couz you might have a hard time finding the right one, it did happen to me, couldn’t find RAM for my laptop at the stores, so i ended with Crucial, and i am happy now.
As for the old RAM, you can sell it if you don’t need or use your old Dell as a ftp/web server if you want, it’s up to you what to do.

if it takes the same type of memory then you can use your old Dell’s.

Go to http://www.crucial.com and run the Crucial System Scanner. It’ll tell you how much RAM you have, what speed it is, and links to more RAM that you can purchase.
